TRANCE Stage performances by Padmashree Shobana, London, October 2016

‘Trance – Dancing Drums’ is one of the greatest works by a renowned dancer and a Padmasree awardee – Ms. Shobhana Chandrakumar. It is a dancing drama fused with rhythm, light and colours, poetry and traditional Indian dance form – Bharathanatyam. This show revolves around the mythology of Hindu deity – Lord Shiva, incarnation of Lord Vishnu and also Mary Magdalene. It is complemented with a blend of Indian classical, Qawali, Bollywood and Electronic music. The visual imagery and music of the show takes the audience to a state of Trance.

RNCC in collaboration with Vedagram UK Ltd (https://vedagram.uk/) presented this show in 2 stages in UK as a fund raiser. A mesmerising show was staged at Great Hall, Queen Mary University of London and Waterside theatre, Aylesbury in October 2016. Around 2000 people watched this spellbound performance and supported us.

It was the first time that I’d convinced myself for an adventure of this magnitude. It sent shivers up and down my spine the moment I knew I was going. I am glad that I could jump with Kithu (Ryan) brimming in my heart and thanks to him for making it so easy and amazing for me. By far it has been the most exhilarating experiences in my life.

I did the tandem sky dive at GoSkyDive, Salisbury on 11th July 2015 along with few of my work colleagues and friends. It was a bright and sunny morning when we arrived at the center. We were booked in for induction, safety instructions, training etc the normal procedures. By the time it was close to our turn the weather started to go up and down and suddenly it was grey and overcast. They had called off all the flights and asked us to re-book on a different day. We were already in our jumpsuits but had to remove until further notification came. We were quite disappointed but at the same time rock determined. We waited for 5-6 hours and the weather like a magic lightened up.

In no time we were back in our jump suits and we made our way to our maiden free fall in the new flashy Cessna Super Cargomaster. We were all stacked up like fishes with our heat revving faster than the propeller blades of the plane, adrenaline was at its peak. By law one should only jump in tandem with an instructor. I opted for a cameraman too who filmed my downfall (sic). In 10-12 minutes the aircraft climbed to 15000 ft and the door to heaven opened. What followed next was the best 60 seconds of my life – the Free Fall. We were tearing through clouds at 125 mph, I could feel the cold air gushing through my nostrils, it was really exciting. The excitement died as soon as the instructor deployed the parachute at 5000 ft and soon we were found floating and hanging around in the air. Few minutes later we touched ground safely.

It was literally a breath taking experience which can not be expressed in words. One needs to experience it to acknowledge it. Now, putting the adventure aside the ultimate aim of this jump was to raise funds for RNCC which, I believe, I could fulfill to the best of my ability by raising £550 – As they say every little helps.  A big thanks to all those who supported me in this expedition. Really appreciate it!!!
